Shaping Employee Experience

14-Sep-2018 2:12:12 PM / by Caleb Dow

Similar to the way your customer experience is shaped by the interactions a customer has with your company, an employee experience is the journey an employee takes throughout their time with your company. Employee experience is shaped by every single interaction that occurs between the employee and the company — from recruiting to onboarding, training, growth, rewards, and exiting. Just like we design a customer experience, companies need to be intentional about how they design employee experience along the employee lifecycle.

The result of being intentional about shaping employee experience is an engaged workforce. When designing your employee experience, the best thing you can do is stay true to your companies mission, values, and purpose. This will ensure that you are consistent, and will result in a workplace where people feel a sense of belonging and purpose.

“Always treat your employees exactly as you want them to treat your best customers.” - Stephen R. Covey

Internally, there are several programs and policies that you can put in place to help mould employee experience. Employee experience can also be influenced by how your company portrays itself externally, and by the quality of your products and services. All of these factors shape the employee’s perception of your company.

A workplace that offers a great employee experience is one that:

  1. Fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging
  2. Allows people to feel a sense of purpose
  3. Considers and encourages employee health and wellness
  4. Offers channels for feedback and open communication
  5. Celebrates accomplishments
  6. Offers goals and areas for growth
